Circulation Policies

Creighton students, faculty, and staff may check out material from the Circulation Desk with a valid University ID card. You are responsible for items checked out on your card. All visitors are welcome to use library materials on site, and some may be entitled to a Guest Card or to Reciprocal Borrowing privileges.

How do I renew my materials?

You may renew materials in person or online with a valid University ID card. Click here to renew online. Log in with your NetID (all caps) and PIN number. If you don't know your PIN number, you may contact the Circulation staff at 280-2260. Note that items cannot be renewed if they are already overdue, or have been placed on hold by someone else. Guest card holders may not renew items.

What if an item becomes overdue?

Library materials must be renewed or returned (in good condition) by the due date. Although we send out courtesy reminders, you are responsible for knowing when materials are due. After a 14-day grace period, you will be fined $5 per item. If an item is not returned within 42 days, you will be assessed the replacement charge plus a $10 processing fee. The Library will waive the replacement charge when materials are returned, but not the fine or processing fee.

The Library may suspend your borrowing privileges if you have overdue materials or fines. We may also block registration or place a hold on your university records.

How can I pay for any library charges?

The Library accepts payment for fines and fees in any of the following forms:

Can I place a hold on an item?

Yes. When a book you need is checked out or not on the shelf, you may click here to place a hold and we will notify you when it becomes available.

What do students need to know about Course Reserves?

Your teacher may place books and other items "on reserve" in the Library. Click here to look up Course Reserves. These materials can be checked out from the Circulation Desk with a valid University ID for 2 hours, 2 hours/overnight (starting one hour before closing), 4 hours, 3 days, or 7 days, depending on the item. Fines for overdue Reserves are 25 cents per hour (for hourly items) and $1 per day (for 3 and 7 day items). If material is not returned, you will be charged the fine and replacement costs.

Some course Reserves are posted electronically, instead of in hard copy. Click here to access Course E-Reserves. Your teacher will give you the PIN number needed to log in, or you may check with the Circulation staff for more information.

What do faculty need to know about DoIT equipment?

The Library loans DoIT equipment to faculty and staff for 3-day use. To reserve this equipment, call Barbara McElfresh at 280-2706. You may check the availability of these items in the Library Catalog (CLIC) by selecting material type "Equipment for Faculty Use." Please present your University ID at check-out.

At all other times, technical support should be arranged in advance, and charges apply. DoIT technicians deliver and set up equipment at CUMC, Boyne, BIC, and the Cardiac Center.
