What is the Dominican Republic Collection?
The Dominican Republic Collection was begun in 1995 to support the University's academic and service programs and the Institute for Latin American Concern (ILAC). The collection includes books, periodicals, and government publications about and from the Dominican Republic. Subject areas represented include:
- Business and economics
- Education
- Folklore and culture
- Health care
- History
- Literature
- Political Science
- Religion and theology
- Others as appropriate
The Library also maintains a Dominican Republic Research Guide, which includes links to web-based resources and information about print publications.
Is the collection in English or Spanish?
The Library purchases books both in English and in Spanish. We attempt to collect comprehensively all materials in English which fit the subject criteria of the Dominican Republic Collection. In addition, a significant portion of Dominican scholarly works in Spanish are also added. Spanish-language titles currently form a larger percentage of the collection, and that trend is likely to continue.
How can I locate material in the collection?
The Dominican Republic Collection is shelved throughout the building by Library of Congress call number or SuDoc number. All titles in the collection are included in the Creighton Libraries Information Catalog (CLIC) with the special subject heading of "Dominican Republic Collection." Researchers can therefore browse a complete list of titles by searching for the phrase "dominican republic collection" as a Subject in CLIC. Author, title, and keyword searching is also possible. Researchers can also limit their search results to either English or Spanish.
Creighton students, faculty, and staff working in the Dominican Republic can request library assistance via Ask-A-Librarian. Library databases can be accessed in the Dominican Republic via the library's home page and Creighton NetID. Other resources may be available to the extent that they can be transmitted electronically.
